The Company
This U.S.-based leader in grid-scale battery storage is positioned to become one of the most dominant companies in the American energy market. Backed by a global clean energy powerhouse, they combine advanced engineering expertise with cutting-edge manufacturing capacity, including a growing domestic footprint. With a 40 plus GWh project pipeline and more than 250 professionals already on board, their U.S. division is scaling fast as they continue developing some of the most advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems in the industry.

The Role
As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will support the development of advanced controls and dynamic simulation models for large-scale energy systems across grid-connected and islanded applications.

The role combines dynamic system modeling, controls development, and grid studies, with responsibility for developing and validating models used to understand system stability, performance, and interaction between different generation resources.
While the business has historically focused heavily on utility-scale BESS, the controls platform is expanding to support a broader range of technologies including solar, wind, generators, gas turbines, and microgrids.
You will work with models of inverters, battery systems, generators, and electrical networks, using simulation tools to evaluate system behavior and develop control strategies for complex hybrid power plants.
PSCAD is central to the role, with MATLAB and PSS/E also used across the wider engineering environment. Experience with inverter-based resources, including grid-forming and grid-following controls, is particularly relevant.
This is a growth position within a developing controls team and offers exposure to technically complex projects with major utilities, hyperscale customers, and large-scale energy infrastructure developers.

Responsibilities Include
• Developing and maintaining dynamic models for BESS, inverters, generators, renewable generation, and electrical networks
• Performing dynamic system studies in grid-connected and islanded operating conditions
• Using PSCAD to model system behavior, interconnection performance, and dynamic response
• Supporting studies involving grid-forming and grid-following inverter controls
• Performing system-level analysis including dynamic response, interconnection studies, and low-voltage ride-through behavior
• Supporting project engineering teams with modeling and controls requirements for new projects

The Candidate
• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Controls, Power Electronics, or a closely related discipline
• PhD strongly preferred, although candidates with a strong Master’s background and relevant industry or research experience will be considered
• Ideally 3+ years of dynamic system modeling experience, although candidates with 1–2 years of industry experience and strong relevant research may also be considered
• Strong hands-on experience using PSCAD is essential
• Experience developing or working with dynamic models of inverter-based resources
• Understanding of grid-forming and grid-following inverter controls
• Experience with power system studies, grid interconnection, dynamic response, or stability analysis
• Background may come from BESS, solar, wind, generators, gas turbines, microgrids, or other inverter-based resources
• Experience from OEMs, EPCs, developers, consultancies, or utilities can all be relevant
