The Role
As Utility Estimator, you will serve as a key technical member of a pre-construction team responsible for delivering detailed EPC cost estimates for complex, turn-key battery energy storage, solar, and microgrid projects across the Americas.
This is not a spreadsheet-driven, plug-and-play estimating role. The team is looking for someone capable of building estimates from first principles, particularly in situations where historical benchmarks may not exist. You will play a central role in shaping early-stage project economics, developing internal estimating tools, and driving cost transparency across engineering, procurement, and construction functions.
You will work closely with development, engineering, sales, and project execution teams, supporting projects from early bid stage through construction and post-mortem analysis.
Responsibilities Include:
• Preparing detailed EPC estimates and firm bids for utility-scale battery storage and PV projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontracting, permitting, interconnection, and ancillary costs
• Building and maintaining internal cost databases and estimating tools using historical project data, vendor quotes, productivity reports, and value-engineering insights
• Estimating MV/HV electrical infrastructure and substation components associated with utility-connected projects
• Analyzing procurement strategies and evaluating cost trade-offs between equipment vendors and construction methodologies
• Supporting design reviews, pre-construction planning, commissioning input, and post-project cost evaluations
• Contributing to new product initiatives and helping standardize estimating processes as the team scales
• Mentoring junior engineers and promoting best practice across the estimating function
The Candidate
• Degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• Minimum 2 years of experience estimating power generation or utility-connected projects, ideally with MV/HV substation exposure
• Experience within utility-scale solar, battery storage, oil and gas, data centers, heavy industrial, or similar power-intensive sectors
• Demonstrated ability to estimate from first principles rather than relying solely on pre-built cost models
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, procurement strategy, and cost risk allocation
• Advanced Excel and data analysis capability, with proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with CAD
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with multiple projects running concurrently
