The Role
As General Counsel, Labor & Employment, you’ll provide legal guidance across labor relations, workplace investigations, agency matters, and employment policy. You’ll be trusted as a hands-on legal partner to the HR team and executive leadership, offering practical, business-minded advice and leading key labor initiatives. Reporting to the HR Department Leader and the President, you’ll work directly with senior stakeholders across multiple business units and sites. You’ll also manage outside counsel, guide policy, and play a vital role in maintaining labor stability across the organization. The role will be primarily based in their Offices in Troy, MI, but offers scope for hybrid working.
What You’ll Be Doing
Advising on collective bargaining, grievance handling, arbitration, and general employment law
Leading or supporting workplace investigations and drafting internal recommendations
Managing responses to EEOC, NLRB, OSHA, and other agency matters; either directly or via outside counsel
Shaping employment policies and delivering legal training for internal teams
Supporting union-related matters, including strategic input and representation during negotiations
Developing long-term strategies to maintain labor peace and minimize legal risk
Managing legal budgets and relationships with external counsel
What We’re Looking For
Juris Doctor and admission to at least one US state bar
Strong experience in labor and employment law, ideally in manufacturing or industrial settings
Proven ability to advise business leaders on employment issues in high-growth environments
Experience with unions, including negotiations, grievance resolution, or arbitration
Familiarity with agency processes and comfort drafting or reviewing regulatory responses
In-house experience within a corporate or manufacturing legal team preferred
