Join a global leader in advanced energy and power infrastructure as it expands its government affairs and policy function to shape the next generation of the electric grid across the United States.
This business operates one of the most advanced and vertically integrated energy platforms in the industry, spanning energy storage, solar, software, and grid services. As distributed energy continues to scale and reshape electricity systems, the organisation is investing in senior policy leadership to drive legislative outcomes, unlock new markets, and remove barriers to deployment.
This role sits at the intersection of politics, policy, and commercial strategy directly influencing how energy technologies are adopted, regulated, and monetised at the state level.
The Role
This is a senior government affairs position focused on shaping state-level energy policy, with a primary focus on California and additional responsibility across high-priority U.S. markets.
You will lead legislative engagement efforts, working closely with policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders to advance policies supporting battery energy storage, solar, and virtual power plants.
The role combines political advocacy with strategic policy development, requiring the ability to influence legislative outcomes, build coalitions, and align policy direction with commercial objectives.
Working closely with internal commercial, product, and engineering teams, you will ensure that evolving legislation supports scalable deployment and long-term growth across both residential and commercial energy markets.
What You’ll Do
Lead legislative strategy to support the growth of distributed energy resources, battery storage, and virtual power plant solutions across key U.S. markets
Act as a key representative in California, building and maintaining strong relationships with policymakers, legislative staff, and state agencies in Sacramento
Draft, shape, and advocate for legislation that accelerates deployment timelines, improves grid utilisation, and unlocks new market opportunities
Monitor, analyse, and respond to proposed legislation, developing strategies to support favourable outcomes and mitigate potential risks
Build coalitions with utilities, trade associations, and industry partners to strengthen advocacy efforts and align on policy priorities
Represent the organisation in public hearings, legislative discussions, and stakeholder forums through written submissions and verbal testimony
Provide strategic guidance to internal teams by translating political and legislative developments into clear commercial implications
Support expansion into new markets by identifying and addressing legislative and policy barriers to entry
The Candidate Required:
6+ years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or legislative roles, ideally within energy, utilities, or infrastructure
Strong understanding of state-level legislative processes and political dynamics
Proven experience influencing policy outcomes through stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and coalition building
Ability to communicate complex policy and technical topics clearly to a wide range of audiences
Highly self-motivated, with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Highly valued:
Experience working within California’s energy ecosystem (e.g. CPUC, CEC, state legislature, or utilities)
Exposure to distributed energy resources, energy storage, or electricity market structures
Experience drafting legislation or providing testimony in regulatory or legislative settings
Advanced degree (e.g. Master’s, JD) in a relevant field
Why This Role Stands Out
Direct policy impact – Influence legislation that determines how energy technologies are deployed and monetised across key U.S. markets California market exposure – Operate at the centre of one of the most advanced and influential energy policy environments globally High-growth sector – Work at the forefront of distributed energy, grid transformation, and electrification Strategic visibility – Partner closely with commercial and product teams to shape market entry and growth Career progression – Opportunity to expand into broader policy leadership or strategic market development roles
This is a rare opportunity to operate at the intersection of government, policy, and commercial strategy, where influencing legislation directly enables market growth and shapes the future of the electric grid.
