The company

A market-leading utility-scale solar manufacturer recognized for its product and service quality. The company has a strong financial track record and is currently undergoing a strategic growth phase, with plans to expand its revenue considerably by 2030, including the development of a new US manufacturing facility.

Feedback consistently highlights the company's positive work environment. This includes a high degree of job security, supported by a diversified business model and prudent financial management. The company has a collaborative and structured work culture, emphasizing respect and continuous improvement. Employees benefit from comprehensive training, opportunities for career advancement, and a good work-life balance.

The role

The Product Development Manager will lead a growing power electronics product development team focused on solar inverters, ESS inverters, VFDs / VSDs, drives, controls, and adjacent electrification markets.

Historically, much of the company’s product development was led from Japan and tested locally, but the business is now building more product development capability in the US. This role will play a key part in that transition, helping shape product priorities, manage engineering resources, and lead the development and improvement of high-power inverter, drive, and controls technologies.

The position will manage a team of around 8-10 engineers across Houston, Roanoke, and Valencia, Spain, with further growth expected. It is a high-visibility role, working closely with engineering, the Houston lab, business units, senior leadership, and Japan-based colleagues.

This is more of a product development leadership and strategy role than a hands-on engineering position, although the successful candidate must have enough technical depth in power electronics to lead credibly, challenge ideas, and build trust with a highly capable engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a growing engineering team responsible for power electronics product development.

  • Manage product development priorities across solar inverters, ESS inverters, VFDs / VSDs, drives, controls, and related high-power technologies.

  • Work closely with business units, engineering teams, the Houston lab, HQ, and senior leadership to ensure product development activity supports business needs.

  • Support the transition toward more US-led product development, including product improvements, localization, and adaptation to market pressures such as tariffs and supply chain requirements.

  • Evaluate product development opportunities, technical priorities, resource needs, budgets, and project timelines.

  • Build trust with a highly technical engineering team, providing clear direction while encouraging challenge, input, and technical debate.

  • Report regularly to senior leadership on product development progress, risks, priorities, and team performance.

The Candidate

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience, ideally including power electronics product development.

  • 5+ years of experience managing a technical engineering team.

  • Strong background in power electronics, ideally including VFDs, VSDs, solar inverters, ESS inverters, drives, PCS, UPS, converters, or similar high-power technologies.

  • Previous experience designing or developing VFDs, inverters, drives, or related power electronics products.

  • Experience leading product development teams, ideally across distributed or remote locations.

  • Strong leadership style, with the ability to manage smart, opinionated technical teams without relying on an overly authoritative approach.

  • Ability to work with business units, senior leadership, parent company stakeholders, and technical teams to build trust and move projects forward.

  • Electrical engineering background preferred, although mechanical engineers with strong relevant product development experience may be considered.

  • Experience from solar, BESS, inverter, PCS, VFD / drive, utility UPS, data center power, industrial automation, motor drives, or medium-voltage power electronics environments would be highly relevant.
