We are working with long-standing renewable and clean energy Developer with offices in California and servicing the entire United States. For the past fifteen years, they have been specialists in power generation, energy efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency in the commercial and industrial market.
The company is experiencing substantial growth and seeking to hire several senior sales professionals to cover various markets and regions. This presents an excellent opportunity for significant earnings for the incoming professionals, as their current sales team members earn between $350,000 and $400,000 annually. The business operates with a highly agile ethos, prioritizing the availability of essential resources and tools for its staff. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on providing comprehensive support through a robust technical marketing and Sales Development Representative team, which aids in the sales process and ensures smooth operations.
As an experienced project developer, you will play a key role in developing the company’s distributed generation projects in the United States. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of solar, battery storage, CHP, and microgrid project development, including project identification, evaluation, and implementation.
Role
- Plan and execute business development opportunities from identification to completion.
- Take overall responsibility for identifying and securing renewable and clean power customers and transactions while managing the prospects pipeline.
- Work with senior management to identify and develop business opportunities for acquisition.
- Bring potential project opportunities through existing relationships with other developers.
- Participate in or lead due diligence processes for projects.
- Perform financial analysis to evaluate deal structures, economic viability, and tax assumptions properly.
- Develop a detailed schedule for each task and milestone.
- Monitor and manage milestones, preparing regular progress reports.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry contacts in the United States, including key business and government customers.
- Gather supporting data, including competitive intelligence on market opportunities for new projects.
- Stay updated on industry trends and competitor activities, including regulatory and financial incentives, power pricing, and structured financing transactions.
- Prepare project budgets and assist management in budget reviews.
- Focus on negotiating and obtaining interconnection agreements with utilities operating in different markets.
- Collaborate with internal teams to negotiate contract terms, such as project finance, engineering, project management, procurement, and legal.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in renewable energy development, particularly in solar PV, battery storage, CHP, and microgrid power projects in the United States, including origination, business development, marketing, or related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, business, or a similar discipline (graduate degree preferred).
- Strong interpersonal, sales, networking, leadership, negotiation, and time management skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Previous experience in a commercial negotiation environment with excellent commercial management, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Thorough understanding of financial modeling, LOIs (Letters of Intent), PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements), leases, MIPAs (Master Interconnection and Purchase Agreements), ESAs (Energy Service Agreements), and related transactional agreements.
- Experience in managing the renewable and clean energy development process.
- In-depth knowledge of the renewable and clean energy power market and its dynamics, ability to stay current with evolving technologies, regulations, and trends, and ability to build and maintain strong relationships with off-takers and industry leaders.
- Impressive track record of closing renewable and clean energy deals.
