The Company
A market leader in the U.S. energy storage industry, generating multi-billion-dollar annual revenue and continuing to scale rapidly across utility-scale storage, power infrastructure, and advanced industrial products.
Fully vertically integrated across hardware, software, engineering, manufacturing, and deployment, all based in the U.S., the company offers a rare opportunity to influence products used across some of the largest energy projects in the world. The environment combines technical depth, speed, and high accountability, with significant ownership given to individuals who can translate complex regulatory and safety requirements into scalable product decisions.
The Role
As Senior Product Manager, Fire & Compliance Technology, you will own the compliance, safety, and fire protection roadmap across a global industrial energy hardware portfolio, including utility-scale BESS.
You will define the strategy, product requirements, and certification priorities needed to ensure products remain ahead of evolving standards across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Working closely with engineering, legal, product, commercial, and external regulatory stakeholders, you will help embed compliance and fire protection into product development from the earliest stages.
This role is suited to someone with a technical background in battery systems, fire protection, compliance, certification, or regulatory affairs who can manage complex approval programs while also helping shape the long-term product roadmap.
Responsibilities Include:
• Owning the compliance, safety, and fire protection roadmap across industrial energy hardware
• Translating global codes, standards, and regulatory requirements into clear product requirements
• Managing concurrent testing and certification programs across multiple products and geographies
• Working with engineering and product teams to integrate compliance into early-stage development
• Building relationships with certification bodies, AHJs, standards organizations, and regulatory stakeholders
• Defining the fire protection strategy as products and deployment environments evolve
• Supporting customers and sales teams with certifications, permitting guidance, and technical documentation
• Working with frameworks including UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, NFPA 855, NFPA 70, IEC 62619, and local fire, building, and electrical codes
• Tracking regulatory changes across key global markets and planning product responses before they become commercial barriers
• Communicating compliance risks, certification status, and product gaps to technical and executive leadership
The Candidate
• Experience within BESS, battery technology, power systems, fire protection, compliance, certification, or regulatory affairs
• Strong understanding of energy storage safety standards and the requirements that influence product design and market access
• Background may include product management, compliance engineering, fire protection engineering, regulatory affairs, systems engineering, or technical program management
• Comfortable engaging with AHJs, testing laboratories, standards bodies, engineering teams, and customers
• Able to determine which compliance requirements are most commercially and technically important across different markets
• Experience managing multiple certification or type-testing programs simultaneously
• Strong communicator who can translate complex regulatory information for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related technical degree preferred
• Direct battery or BESS experience is strongly preferred
• Willing to work from Palo Alto, California
The team is considering candidates at differing seniorities depending on experience, technical depth, and product ownership.
